This book considers the increasingly complex negotiations for European Union Association Agreements by focussing on the EU’s internal bureaucratic politics underpinning such negotiations processes. This is achieved through the development of a novel analytical model and applied in an empirical analysis of the EU’s negotiations in the Latin American region and beyond. Given its temporal focus it underlines the effects that the changes introduced with the Lisbon Treaty have had on the EU’s international negotiations.
